PROGRAMMES CONDUCTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PSM, MIMER MEIDCAL COLLEGE. Workshop on Bio- Medical Waste Management A hands on training workshop on disposal of bio medical waste was organized for non teaching staff of MIMER Medical College and Dr. Bhaousaheb Sardesai Talegaon Rural Hospital, from 5th Sep. 2011. to 9th Sept. 2011. Total 170 staff attended the workshop. Dr. Ratna Majumdar, Professor Community Medicine explained in details about the segregation of waste and its proper disposal methods. Mr. Suhas Medsinge, Bio Medical Waste facility operator, demonstrated the procedure with the help of colored containers. The participants were benefited with the successful organization of the workshop. World Breast Feeding Week 1st To 7th August 2011 On the occasion of ‘World Breast feeding week’ from 1st to 7th August 2011, various awareness programmes were held at various Anganwadies by the lecturers, interns of MIMER Medical College and by the lecturers and interns of MIMER Physiotherapy College. The purpose behind organizing such an event was to educate the pregnant women and the mothers as well as the Anganwadi dais about the benefits of breastfeeding for the mothers as well as the baby’s health. Various misconception about the prelacteal feed & colostrums were cleared. The sessions held at various Anganwadies were highly interactive with the mothers keenly enquiring about the do’s and don’ts regarding breastfeeding. Advantages of breastfeeding were highlighted and emphasis was laid on proper nutrition for mothers. The physiotherapists told about proper position of breast feeding and postnatal exercises. The same platform was utilized to demonstrate use of ORS to combat dehydration . On 5th August 2011 Dr, Mrs. Shitole give a lecture on need of doing pap smears to the assembled ladies. Breast Feeding Awareness Week “Breast Feeding awareness week” was conducted on 10/08/2011 at Ahirwade and Jambhulgaon, two of the adopted villages by the Dept of Community Medicine, MIMER Medical College, Talegaon Dabhade. Talk of the benefits of breast feeding was given by Dr. Mrs, Asha Shitole in Marathi. About 18 participants in Ahirwadi & 20 Participants at Jambhulgaon benefited from this talk . Question & Answer session followed the talk . Community Health Workers of these 2 villages Bhama Fundhe of Ahirwadi & Jayashri Deshmukh of Jambhulgaon actively participated by arranging this session. Dr. Sandya Pimpale & Pramil Pai Social Worker coordinated both the events The programmes were conducted under the active guidance of Dr. Mrs. B. Patnaik & Dr. Prayag R.D. Professor PSM. Nutrition Week 1st to 7th Sept. 2011 A healthy baby contest was held on 2nd Sept.2011 for Anganwadis of Talegaon Dabhade. 18 students from 20 Anganwadis screened by Anganwadi workers came to Urban Health Centre, they were judged by Dr. R. Majumdar and 2 prizes given. A prabhat feri (Rally) was conducted by Anganwadi workers depicting slogans related to Nutrition.
